August 26, 2024Our whole family trains here and we absolutely love it. Such a supportive family atmosphere. What started as attending just for something to do with the kids has grown into something I absolutely love and look forward to.
August 26, 2024My family has been taking classes at Lyndell for over 12 years. We’ve taken almost every class that they’ve offered: Tae Kwon Do (TKD), yoga, meditation, several different fitness classes, self defense and more. My children taking classes at Lyndell had profound impacts on their development. Some changes I saw were: – Increased confidence through learning a new… read more form or successfully earning a new belt. – Better physical ability, stability and coordination. – Improved focus on completing tasks outside of class (homework, chores, etc.) – Better social skills by interacting with real people (not electronics) and making friends. – Increased patience, emotional regulation and empathy for others. I can be very heartwarming to see my child give support to another student whom is struggling. – The desire to lead and mentor. It can’t be funny at times in TKD to see an experienced 10-year-old (or maybe even younger) paired up to train the 50+ “new” student. – Safety. The TKD and self defense classes taught my children (myself and others of all ages) how to: identify and avoid situations that may put them at risk; get out of dangerous situations and (if absolutely necessary) defend themselves. Children and parents (or other caregivers) can approach classes in a number of ways: – I’ve seen parents and children take the same class independently of each other. This gives them individual space and freedom to grow but also something to bond over outside Lyndell. – I saw parents and kids take the class together as a way to have this one special activity they do together. – Personally, I mostly let my kids take classes by themselves. Providing personal space for them and giving me a small break. The exercise classes have helped me to get into a routine of putting time aside for myself and to start down the path to becoming healthier. The classes taught me how to exercise correctly and how to avoid postures and positions that could hurt me. The instructors really focus on getting to know you and your strengths and weaknesses or if you have any sort of limitation. For myself, I struggled with some shoulder issues. So during the class the instructor may give me specialized instructions for a particular exercise to keep it within my capabilities and avoid worsening my condition. In regards to mental wellness classes (yoga, meditation, sound immersion, etc.): These classes operate in the same manner and care as the exercise classes. Compared to the exercise classes, my experience (as a beginner) was that these took several sessions before I felt like I was benefiting from the experience. These classes were totally new to me and it took me some time to have a sense of how the class was structured and what to expect. It also took some time for me to learn how to clear my mind, which was (and sometimes still is) a roadblock to my relaxation efforts. Beyond the mental aspects, Yoga has helped me to increase my range of motion and improved my stability. The only thing I can’t really comment on is the numerous summer camps for the younger kids. My kids much older now and their portfolio of offerings is has expanded greatly over the last few years. If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of Lyndell Institute. Their instructors are experience and caring. The classes foster a sense of community and has expanded my circle of friends. I would encourage anyone to give Lyndell Institute a try.
